Blogsville?

While I wait to get another life on candy crush, let's talk about blogsville

  1. I read @tilola's post today (for some reason my brain is registering that I wrote her name wrong) talking about blogsville. In my humble opinion, blogsville no longer exist. It's possible that it still exists and I don't see or sense it or maybe I have been excluded from it (ha ha).
  2. Nah! It's gone. The sense of community that existed is dead. It used to be an online community of Nigerian bloggers who actually liked and supported each other. Now it's all man for themselves.
  3. Once upon a time I would have been comfortable enough to talk candidly about my experiences in med school. I've not even mentioned one tenth of my experience yet, the first chance they got, an anonymous was quick to comment on how I constantly whine, moan and bitch about med school and I'm sure she's not the only one who feels that way.
  4. I hardly comment on blogs and vice versa. I guess whatever inspires people to leave comments no longer exists. For me, it started off with me being busy and really not having the time to leave comments but after a comment I left on wives connection turned into a free for all which lasted for months, I just can't be bothered. Zero interest.
  5. I can't imagine something like Blogsville idol or the category B of naija bloggers award ever taking place again. We actually used to have fun.
  6. On January 23rd, it will be 7 years since I started blogging. I remember how all the bloggers seemed to be cool with each other and feeling like an outsider when I fist started. Taureanminx used to put up a list of new bloggers she liked/found. Things were just different and more conducive for my purpose but the only constant thing in life is change. Sometimes all we can do is accept it and move on.
  7. I'll just keep occupying my space and doing what I see fit, including but not limited to ranting, bitching, whining, moaning and occasionally talking about serious stuff, like herpes :)
  8. Back to candy crush. I'm on level 42. Yes, I know I'm late. Blame med school.

  1. Category B! *sigh*
That's the downside of growth, the awards grew so much it turned into a competition! Ugh

  2. I think I arrived on blogsville when the "community" was withering sha... but like you said, change is constant!

    1. TWP! I can't remember when i first discovered your blog, but my friend always used to talk about your blog and i decided to check it out. I still remember one pink gorgeous kaftan you had one your blog one time. I agree it has turned into something else. I miss reading from you sha. You don't have personal posts like you used to.

  4. I agree that the sense of community that existed is dead and gone and i wish there was a way to revive it. I really miss the good old days!

    1. Yep. I think we can start by leaving comments and responding to comments left on our blogs.HUGE note to self. I am so guilty of not leaving comments or responding to comments (i always respond in my head). Maybe i should start typing it. lol. I'm trying now.

  5. That was the point of the whole post. I'm a sucker for hope, and I believe things can actually be the way they used to be. Bloggers will go, new bloggers will come, but we can always keep the spirit alive, that is the fact. If we want trolls to take over, they will. If we stand together in spite of the bad belles, we will succeed.

Everything you said in your post is true, but trust me, it can be remedied. And that is why I wrote the post. I am one of the greatest benefits of this blogsville community, and I will keep loving it.

The truth is everyone knows something changed along the way. The way I see it, there are three things everyone can do. The first is to complain about it, the second is to do nothing about it, and the third is to try to make the community more interesting and fun again. I choose the third.,

    1. Before i put up this post and read the subsequent comments, i really had taken the passive, disinterested route. I was just going to continue to do me, but i agree that instead of complaining i will do something about it. I read a comment where you said, i had not commented more than 5 times on your blog, during the guess the blogger series. Are you sure? I'm sure i have commented at least 6 times. LOL. The main reason i stopped commenting on blogs was because i was very busy, then it got to a point where i had no desire to because i wasn't sure if i was welcome or not. I'd rather do my thing, than worry about stuff like that.

To be honest, i have gotten the sense in the past that you are not that into my craziness. Maybe it's imagined, but i didn't think you were a fan. It's all good in the hood though. No hard feelings.

    2. Lol at craziness. I don't know if you remember. Around the 2nd half of 2009/2010, I was a very regular commenter on your blog. It was not a reciprocal gesture, and after months/years, I just dropped the ball.

  6. And here are two light-hearted posts I did that related to this issue. All in a bid to revive the spirit. Bad blogationsips, and Bad blogtitudes or so.

    1. Bad blogationsips is the root cause of the communal fall out.

When one don't agree with a certain POV, it automatically makes one an enemy!

If everybody becomes a Yes-man, then we would all be lying to each other.

For fear of not to be seen as a bad person, many keep silent and don't form a relationship with the blogger. And when there is no communication between the blogger and the readers, the result is what we are seeing now.

One good thing I have learnt living abroad is the 'attitude'. If you don't like who I am for reasons you only know, please don't let the door hit you on your face as you walk out!

@tilola, well done for trying to bring us back as a family, I would do my best. but making no promises either. xx

    2. I agree with NewDawn completely. If i can't comment freely, why comment at all.

  7. You too are also hooked on this candy crush game?! What do you guys see in it ehn? :D

OK, back to the points you listed. You never fail to deliver sistah! Infact, I was nodding my head as I read, especially the #2 point......it is every man out for himself for reasons best known to them.

Regarding the awards thingy, you all know my stand on it, I write out of pleasure.

Commenting used to be fun but when one's head gets chewed off for stating a candid view, it is natural to pull back into one's shell and watch.

@tilola has a passion for blogsville as I do, but just as sting said, there would always be changes, and since life is dynamic and not stationary, we have to accept that change and move on. And @tilola, you said bloggers go and come, which is true, and the new bloggers might not have the same reason for blogging. Many are into blogging for the money because of what they read and see, only to realize that, all that glitters is not gold.

My recommendation is that, we that we should always be in touch and continue to support ourselves in anyway we can. But to have the same communal feeling we had years back, that cannot be vouched for.

I haven't tried pet saga. I downloaded it after i saw ur comment. There's farm saga too which i like.

    4. @Newdawn...that's the thing. The way to build a sense of community is to be able to comment freely on blogs knowing that your head will not be chopped off if you don't agree with the popular opinion. The main thing i miss is the support. I used to feel like i had an online family who actually cared about what was going on in my life and i could be honest and share stuff, now you don't know who hates you or likes you, so you keep to yourself.

  8. Here's to new beginnings and hoping we can get back that great community.

I'm obsessed with Candy Crush too! So addictive! I always find myself begging for lives and trying to unlock new quests. Haha!

    1. Amen to that. I'm not on facebook, so can't beg for lives, so i'm stuck with playing quests to move on to different levels. The treat to getting lives is to move the time on your device forward a day, go back to candy crush, you will get all 5 lives back, then before you start playing again, go back and change to the correct date and time. Someone just told me this 2 days ago. Found it helpful.

  9. Arghh, I just lost a long a$$ reply!! Grrr!

But people, can we just shutup and blog! I.e, get back to the order of the day! Atilola and Janyl. B, great job with the clarion call.

Scorpio, you have without a doubt remained one of the consistent few. And lest you weren't aware, the realness of your rants is why some of us frequent here. Blogging is real life- warts, moans, bitching and all. Any body who doesn't like it can jump.

As for the naysayers and trolls who have taken a liking to your comments roll, ermm, all it is is added entertainment. There have always been trolls for as long as there have been blogs.

All this talk of the sense of community disappearing, bloggers are meeting up and hoking up today more than ever, so those stats are not entirely true.

Bloggers will leave, new bloggers will carry on, some of us will remain. That's the cycle of life. If you are still here then it attests that to some degree, you've still got the bloggers blood unfortunately still brewing within.

I'm as guilty as all. Time gets harder to do as we grow older. But if you are keen on carrying on with things as they have been, and should be, there's only one solution - when we are done here reminiscencing, we'd better all just shutup and get back to it - i.e, blog already folks!!!!

    1. LOL...I like you. Yes, i will shut up and blog from now on. Yes, I've always been pretty consistent except for one or two months last year when i had to leave to regain some perspective. Soooo, where are these bloggers meeting and hooking up? Give us gist nau, ahn ahn!

    1. The reason i'm still on this anonymous case is because i am 99% positive that i know who left the comment. In fact, a 100% positive sef. I hate people like that. Sneaky ass. Besides that though, i don't necessarily think a lot of people like my blog and i'm always surprised when someone says that. Maybe because i don't see what there is to like. I don't know, honestly.
